{"id":2841,"date":"2017-03-14T21:58:55","date_gmt":"2017-03-14T21:58:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/5riversinternational.org\/?p=2841"},"modified":"2017-03-15T05:00:41","modified_gmt":"2017-03-15T05:00:41","slug":"a-light-in-the-darkness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/5riversinternational.org\/?p=2841","title":{"rendered":"A Light in the Darkness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>It was dark inside.\u00a0 We had just stepped out of the sunlight into a small one room brick house.\u00a0 There was no electricity, no lights of any kind.\u00a0 As our eyes began to adjust we could see rice sacks scattered around like rugs trying to cover the dirt floor.\u00a0 There were no chairs, just a bed in the corner to sit on.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>A woman sat on the floor clutching a small baby to her chest rocking her back and forth as the little one coughed and wheezed.\u00a0 Her husband scurried about the room looking for some cups as he prepared chai over a small mound of hot coals. He reached his hands, covered with dirt and callouses into a tub and retrieved some cups from the dirty brown water. He wiped his hands around in the cups in a gesture of trying to clean them for us and then poured the hot liquid.\u00a0 I smiled and sipped the chai.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/5riversinternational.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Screenshot_2015-04-06-18-26-36.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-2824 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/5riversinternational.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Screenshot_2015-04-06-18-26-36-300x168.png\" alt=\"Screenshot_2015-04-06-18-26-36\" width=\"262\" height=\"152\" \/><\/a>The woman\u2019s dark skinned face was etched with worry as she told me of her child\u2019s illness and showed me the medicine bottles that had taken their last rupees. Despite their sacrifices the child was not getting better.\u00a0 I told them about the God who loved them, who died for them and who answered prayer.
